In this episode, former Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos shares his thoughts about the link between peacebuilding and nature conservation in Colombia and at the global scale. Host: Hesta Groenewald, Associate Consultant, PeaceNexus Foundation. Hesta has 20 years’ experience in conflict, peacebuilding and gender work. She has particular expertise on implementing conflict-sensitive approaches and on incorporating gender into conflict analysis and peacebuilding. She previously worked for the international peacebuilding NGO, Saferworld, in a variety of roles, including Conflict Adviser, Regional Head of Programmes and as global Head of Research and Programme Support. Currently, she is an independent consultant and Associate Consultant with the PeaceNexus Foundation, with a particular focus on conflict sensitivity, conservation and environment. Guest: President Juan Manual Santos. Juan Manuel Santos is the former President of Colombia and the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. President Santos is a tireless champion for environmental peacebuilding, calling for a world in which we must be able to coexist with diversity and appreciate the way it can enrich our societies. He is a member of the Elders and currently serves as Conservation International’s Arnhold Distinguished Fellow. His foundation, Fundacion Compaz, works hand in hand with Colombian people and communities, who are committed to the social transformation of their territories, in order to provide them with tools that allow them to continue building peace and restoring hope.
